Monitoring

Monitoring the information which flows throughout an enterprise can provide a wide variety of benefits in today’s competitive business environment.  Gartner has recently recognized the emergence of real-time display and analysis of business information, calling it by the name, Business Activity Monitoring (BAM).  They point out that the agility which BAM can bring to business decision making provides the potential to increase sales, lower inventory carrying costs, deliver better customer service, shorten time-to-market for new products, and capitalize on new business opportunities.  In addition to these benefits, information monitoring (both in real-time and through analysis of archived transactions) can enhance security, provide reliable backup and audit capabilities, and reveal developing trends.

The centralized semantic processing of information in the ISS automatically provides access to all transactions flowing in the integrated environment.  Any application or data repository throughout the enterprise which is interfaced to the ISS, either as part of its integrated business function or specifically for monitoring purposes, is a potential source for information monitoring and archiving.  Direct display of the information is available through the standard ISS subscription interface, and the comprehensive subscription filtering capability can be configured to act as a triggering mechanism to alert users to exceptional situations.  More sophisticated display and analysis can be accomplished by simply interfacing the desired display or analysis tool to the ISS like any other integrated application and subscribing to the information to be monitored.
